Vegas has faith in Hill's voice
Staff Report
It might have been fate that singer Faith Hill grew up in a town called Star, Mississippi, considering she has turned into one of the biggest female country stars of the last decade.
Hill was working at a music publishing company in Nashville and was discovered by accident while singing to herself one day. Hill became a demo singer and a harmony vocalist behind Gary Burr. A Warner Brothers executive caught Burr and Hill's act at a Nashville club and wound up signing Hill to a solo deal.
She released her debut album, "Take Me as I Am," in late 1993. The single "Wild One" hit the top of the country charts and the follow-up, "Piece of My Heart," soon followed.
Her next album, "It Matters to Me," came out in 1995, selling three million copies and spawning a string of hits.
Hill returned in the spring of 1998 with "Faith." The single "This Kiss" not only topped the country charts for three weeks, but it also became her first pop hit.
Her next work, "Breathe," was a full-fledged attempt for pop and adult contemporary success. It entered the charts at No. 1 upon its release in late 1999, and its title track became Hill's biggest hit yet.
"The Way You Love Me" and "There You'll Be" followed and both hit the pop Top 10. Hill also scored a Top 10 country hit with "Let's Make Love," a duet with her husband, Tim McGraw, and the two teamed up for a tour in 2000.
