2004 PROFILE
Agassi clinched his 59th career singles and 17th ATP Masters Series title at the the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, Ohio, putting an end to his 16-month title drought.

He claimed his 800th career match win in the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Cup in Los Angeles, Calif. He is the sixth player to win 800 career matches.

He withdrew from Wimbledon with a hip injury.

He had won three consecutive titles and 19 straight matches at the Nasdaq-100 Open, in Miami, Florida before losing to Agustin Calleri.

He was 21-0, since 1999, and 39-3 lifetime, at the Australian Open, before the 2004 edition. Vince Spadea was the last player to have defeated Agassi in Melbourne, in 1999, before Safin did it in 2004.

He has won 58 singles events in his career, including 16 Masters Series and 8 Grand Slam titles.

Agassi was the oldest man since Arthur Ashe (35) in 1978 to reach the final of the year-end championships, the Tennis Masters Cup, in Houston, Texas this year. He has qualified for the event 13 times during his career, and won the title in 1990 and was runner-up in 1999 and 2000.

He was the oldest player to have been ranked No. 1 in the ATP Entry System.

He played and won his 1,000th career match in the opening round at the Stella Artois Championships, in London, England.

He won a record sixth Miami Open, in Key Biscayne, Florida, where he holds a record 18 consecutive wins. Three-time champion Pete Sampras held the old record of 17 consecutive victories in 1993-95.
