(While we do our best to provide accurate and updated contents, casinos can apply rules and conditions different from the one stated here. Ask them for clarification *before* playing)

Starting: players look for a suitable table to sit and play. The most important item is the sign declaring the table betting limits: minimum and maximum allowable bets are usually clearly posted on a sign on the table-top. Often, you can spot tables with lower limit ($3 or $5) because they are quite crowded. In most casinos, the signs are color-coded to match the minimum bets posted on them: red ($5), green ($25), black ($100)

Sitting: seats in a casino are for players only, most dealers are required to ask non-players to move. When the casino is crowded, limit your play to just one machine. Anyway, don't play more machines than you can safely watch over: players should always monitor their machines

Getting chips: once seated at a table, players need to purchase some chips from the dealer for their bets. Players wait for a break in the action and lay cash in front of themselves on the table; some casinos may wait until the dealer shuffles to let new players join the game. Usual buy-in amount is anywhere from 10 to 20 times player's average bet. Players shouldn't hand cash to the dealer, because for security reasons, the dealer can't take anything from players' hands. The whole cash amount will be changed for an equal value of playing chips, with no change back, and put into a slot in the table top. It's good custom to give a quick look at the chips to be sure of their values and to have received the correct amount. In case of question, players cab ask the dealers, part of their jobs is to help players learn the game.

Chips colors: almost standardized in the casino industry. Usually, white chips represent $1, pink chips $2.50, red chips $5, green chips $25, black chips $100, purple chips $500 chips.

Betting: should be made on the table circle or box in front of the player. Before each hand begins, bets are placed into the circle in one stack. When betting multiple denominations of chips, the larger valued chips are placed on the bottom of the stack, with the smaller value chips on top. Once the cards have been dealt, players aren't allowed to touch the bet in the circle. Players know need to know how much they have bet for doubling or splitting at blackjack, the dealer will count down the chips on their behalf. Once the hand is over, the dealer will move around the table to each position in turn, paying winners and collecting the chips from losing hands. After the dealer has paid the players, they can remove their chips from the circle and place the next bets. Players wishing to let their winnings ride will form one stack of chips from the two or more stacks on the table after the dealer paid

Cashing winnings: players take their winnings, in form of chips, to the cashier to exchange them for cash.

Tipping: most front-line casino employees get paid minimum wage, so gratuities of casino patrons can be very important for them. Never should you expect the employee to break the rules when you tip, but when you are winning it is customary to show your appreciation to a courteous and helpful dealer. Of course, you are under no obligation to tip and people usually avoid to tip unkind casino employees just to see if they get nicer.
